Welcome to Confessions of a Science Librarian!
Checking my referrer logs this morning I see that I've been named today's Blogger of Note by the Blogger team. It's quite an honour and I'd like to thank them for giving this humble blog that very kind recognition.
Please stick around and check out some of the other stuff you can find here. Probably my most famous and well know series of posts are:
- My Job in 10 Years -- About the future of science libraries
- Interviews with bloggers & publishing people in the scitech world
- Book reviews of science & Internet culture books
Thanks for dropping by and enjoy your visit!

congrats on the nod from blogger. I'm a library school dropout and always enjoy reading about the paths of other specialty librarians. It's truly an amazing profession, and thanks for sharing yours with us strangers!
Hi John,
Thanks for blogging! I think your site is incredible and have added it to one of my lists. I a studying archivist, working as a clerk in a public library and doing usability on digital interfaces over the summer for the University of Michigan's library.
Look forward to learning more about the travails of science librarianship.
as a custodian of scientific knowledge your skills are crucial. the guarders of knowledge have brought mankind through many a dark age. Most days you are content with your decision to become a librarian.
But other times you get to wondering 'what if?' What if you had become a ninja instead?
love it !
Needs more pictures and a few scatter cushions.
Congratulation on the Blog of note, i always visit their selection, and am very rarely disappointed, all the best from an ex-librarian
Hi, I like this article and reminds me our old librarian way back in college.
Congratulations on making Blogger of Note. I find that your blog is very intersesting.
Thanks, again, everyone for your kind words.
As for being a ninja -- I was always thinking more along the lines of Conan the Barbarian or The Warlord!
Hello there :) I just bumpped into here due to your blog coincidentally appeared on the top of the login interface of blogspot. Right now I'm studying information science and library, and looking forward to get something from here :D Nice blog!!
1st of all..... Congrats....... nice blog...
Congrats on the blog!
Hi there, fellow librarianite!
I had one question which is probably stupid but there are no stupid questions...?
How does one check their referrer log? Never heard of that.
BTW...interesting blog.
Thanks, everyone!
Keith, by referrer logs I mean the application I use to track the number of hits the blog gets and where they come from. I use both Xtreme Tracking and Google Analytics. XT is a lot more bare bones but I check it more frequently -- often first thing in the morning when I discovered the traffic surge yesterday.
GA is more detailed and elaborate but I don't check it all that often. It's also a lot newer than XT which I've been using for around 5 years. GA I've been using for about two years.
For an example of my referred logs, check here.
The Unique Visitors page will give you a real feeling for the size of the surge the last couple of days compared to my usual traffic levels.
Found this by accident but I like it very much. I'll be back!
Great job! Congratulations!
It's Very Provoking!
Nice blog... and congrats on being one of the blogs o note.

Congratulations - I see you started the blog six years ago, well before I knew blogs existed. Just shows the importance of library professionals keep abreast of modern technologies.
Hey, I just discovered your blog recently, thanks to Blogger! :)
I have a book/library related blog too, called Talking Books Librarian - feel free to check it out at http://talkingbookslibrarian.blogspot.com
Congrats for the neat blog!
Your world and what you do is just so far away from my world and what I do. It is amazing to me all of the different people that make the world go round. And the depth to the jobs. It is so evident from the work that you put into your blog that your library is so lucky to have you.
This blog is so well written. So you must put so much into your job. KC
congrats ..nice blog !
Thanks everyone!
